Settling in and separation anxiety
When beginning care, just about every child will experience some form of separation anxiety. It is very normal and often, for families, it can be the most difficult part about going back to work.
Our Preschool Educators are here to help.
In those first few weeks, our focus will be on ensuring children settle in comfortably to their new routine and environment and begin to build strong and positive relationships with their Educators and other children in their room. It is important to acknowledge and talk through any emotions that your child is feeling to provide reassurance as they make this transition.
When you are ready to leave, we ask that you do so without too much hesitation and always say ‘Goodbye’. Children will develop a sense of security if routines are consistent, so please resist the temptation to sneak away. Saying goodbye is sometimes easier with a ‘hand to hold’, so please inform an Educator when you leave so that we can support your child if s/he is feeling anxious.
We will concentrate on forming relationships with your family as a whole to make the transition as smooth and consistent as possible for everyone.
Tips for dealing with separation anxiety
Communication between families, children and Educators is critical in helping everyone adjust to this new arrangement.
